Frequently Asked Questions
What is bike fitting?
A bike fit works on a bike you already have. By interviewing, watching you ride, and adjusting and making measurements, we can determine which adjustments to the contact points will work best for you. At the end of the fitting, I'll provide you with a summary report which you can refer to in the future.
What if my bike doesn't fit me?
As a bike fitter, your long-term satisfaction is my number one priority. If we can't make a bike work out for you, it's a sad situation I wouldn't want to make worse by charging to be the bearer of bad news. In my experience, these situations are rare, and we can usually find out if a bike just can't be fit to you before getting to the point of meeting in person.
What do I need to do a bike fitting in the comfort of my home?
If you already have your bike connected to a stationary trainer, then I'll bring my measuring tools and we can get started right away. If you don't have one, I'll bring my trainer and set your bike up in a ventilated, level area. A garage is fine. Wear whatever you're comfortable riding with, and be prepared to be riding the trainer a significant amount over the fitting.
What is bike size consultation?
Bikes come in a bewildering array of sizes and options. Size designations, and even measurements like '56cm' have no standardized meanings. I have years of experience helping folks get a bike that will work for their specific needs, and none of the profit motive of a bike shop who has to move product quickly. Direct to consumer brands like Canyon are a great value if you get the right bike size, but worthless if you end up with a bike that isn't comfortable. If you invest in a bike size consultation, I'll apply a discount on your in-person fit.
How much should bike fitting cost?
Just like everything in the bike industry, prices for bike fitting have gotten out of control. The reality is that some folks need or want more time and services to work on a bike fit than others, and that should be reflected in the price. I don't want anyone to get sticker shock - we have to agree on the price before we start service.
Can I fit multiple bikes for the price of one?
Unfortunately it isn't that simple. While that might make sense a small part of the time, bikes are usually different enough that there's actually not that much time saving to fitting multiple bikes. That being said, I'll try to come up with a reasonable discount that takes those factors into account, and we can agree on a price and level of service that works for both of us - before I drive to your house.
